Proudly the County Seat of DuPage County, the scenic City of Wheaton is a distinctive community situated within the natural spaces of the region. The village is just 25 miles west of Chicago, which is easily accessible from Wheaton's downtown Metra station, and is convenient to major highways and airports. Settled in 1838, Wheaton is a blend of big-city comforts and small-town charm that makes it an ideal place to work, live and visit.

Here are some notable facts on Wheaton:

  • Rated among the Top 12 Best Places to Live by Chicago Magazine in 2017
  • Wheaton ranked #6 in the National Council of Home Safety and Security's 2017 ranking of the Top 100 Safest Cities in America
  • A "Top Walkable City" ranked by George Washington University
  • A Tree City USA from 1986 to 2017

Wheaton's historic downtown offers a variety of unique dining choices starting with Suzette's Creperie to Sushi Mono, coffee at Five and Hoek Coffee Co. and perhaps dinner at Muldoons Irish Pub and topped off with dessert at Kimmer's Ice Cream.  This is a small sample of the many choices in and around Wheaton.  Visit for a full listing.

Historic Downtown Wheaton is also filled with locally-owned shops and restaurants. It is a pedestrian friendly area where a number of family-friendly events are held throughout the year. Farther south, The Danada neighborhood offers shopping at Town Square Wheaton, Rice Lake Square, Danada Square East, West, and Shops of Wheaton.

The village is convenient to Oakbrook Center, Yorktown Center and Stratford Square Mall. It is also a short drive or Metra commuter train ride from Chicago's Loop and the Magnificent Mile.

Wheaton is home to one of the jewels of the entire Chicagoland region, Cantigny Park home to the McCormick House, First Division Museum, Championship Golf and spectacular gardens.  Other notable attractions in Wheaton include the DuPage County Historical Museum.  This special museum is housed in what was formerly known as the Adams Memorial Library. The building was erected in 1891 by John Quincy Adams as a gift to the community of Wheaton in memory of his late wife, Marilla Phipps Adams.

There is a dynamic community arts scene in Wheaton including the Westside Improv Studio, and Wheaton Drama. Other cultural amenities include the Billy Graham Center and Museum and the Theosophical Society of North America.   Just minutes from Wheaton is The McAninch Arts Center at College of DuPage (The MAC) home to several resident professional ensembles, student productions and world-class touring attractions, plus the Gahlberg Gallery for visual arts.

The popular Illinois Prairie Path runs through Wheaton branching north to the Elgin Branch and south to the Aurora Branch.
